India’s chances of winning the World Cup trophy in Australia faced a major setback with leading pacer Bumrah getting ruled out of the marquee event due to shoulder injury. The team management has opted for the experience of senior seamer Mohammed Shami, who notably hasn’t featured in T20 International cricket for India since the previous edition of T20 World Cup.
However, Shami was part of Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) who won their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy earlier this year. Shami ended his IPL 2022 campaign being the sixth-highest wicket-taker with 20 wickets in 16 games at an economy of 8.
India squad for ICC T20 World Cup: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, R. Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Shami.
