Purnima of Bhadrapada and Pratipada of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month is called Pitru Paksha. During this, Shradh is also performed for the peace of the souls of the ancestors. Pitru Paksha will start from 10th September and will continue till 25th September. According to the Brahma Purana, one should worship the ancestors and offer them. The debt of ancestors can be repaid through Shradh. The ancestors are happy by performing Shradh in Pitru Paksha. Tarpan or Pind Daan is done for the peace of the ancestors’ souls during Pitru Paksha.
According to Pandit Vijay Kumar, the priest of Lord Chitragupta temple located at the headquarters, doing any auspicious work during Shradh Paksha is considered taboo. One should not buy any new things in these days. Also, sattvik food should be prepared during this time. Tamasic food should be avoided. One should avoid cooking food in iron utensils during Shradh. Brass, copper or other metal utensils should be used in Pitru Paksha.
Apart from this, hair and beard should not be cut during this time. Loss of money by cutting hair and beard. Food made of garlic, onion should not be eaten during Shradh Paksha.

Light a lamp of mustard oil, or cow’s ghee in the evening from the full moon to the new moon in Pitru Paksha with a south-facing flame.
On Pitru Paksha, do tarpan for the ancestors every day or get it done by a Brahmin.
In the Pitru Paksha, every day by applying the capsule of Pitru Gayatri of Pitru Sukta, read or get it done more and more, in the same way, the ritual is completed in 11000 lessons.

On every Shradh day, feed Brahmins or the poor as much as possible and take blessings by giving as much dakshina.
Cow, dog, ants and crow should also be given food on every Shradh day.
