Till now, due to the elections being held in 5 states including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, the prices of LPG cylinders and petrol and diesel were getting relief for the last several months. Today the last phase of elections will end and exit polls will also start coming in the evening. Only a rough estimate can be made about whose government will be formed in the five states, but the prices of petrol-diesel and LPG cylinders are set to increase.
So will the domestic cylinder be costlier by Rs 100 to 200 after the election?
There has been a relief for several months in the prices of non-subsidised gas cylinders for the assembly elections in five states. Despite crude oil prices crossing $138 per barrel, there has been no change in the price of domestic LPG cylinders from October 6, 2021. In such a situation, it is feared that after the election i.e. after March 7, the price of gas may increase by more than Rs 100 to 200 per cylinder.
Let us tell you that on March 1, the public sector oil companies have increased the prices of LPG. The prices of commercial gas cylinders increased by Rs 105. At the same time, the price of 5 kg LPG cylinder Chotu also increased by Rs 27. Meanwhile, gas is up an average of US$4 per gallon for the first time since 2008.
Whereas, crude oil rose to its highest level since July 2008 in the first few minutes of trade on Sunday, with Brent at $139.13 a barrel and WTI at $130.50. In such a situation, it is believed that after the assembly elections of five states, along with domestic gas cylinders, the prices of petrol and diesel may also increase. Let us tell you that even after booking today, when it comes, only the increased price will have to be paid. Even if you have made the payment online then you will have to pay a difference.

Petrol and diesel prices have also remained stable for the past several months. On November 3, 2021, the central government had cut excise duty by five rupees per liter on petrol and ten rupees per liter on diesel. After this many state governments also reduced their taxes. At that time, the average crude oil price in the international market was $82 per barrel. Crude oil has crossed $ 128 in the fight between Russia and Ukraine.
Crude oil prices not likely to come down soon
Crude oil prices are not expected to come down any time soon. This is because Saudi Arabia, the largest producer, has not increased its production despite the request of the US. Thus, there is little chance of reduction in crude oil prices for the time being. According to an official of the public sector oil company, the companies are under pressure due to the rise in the price of crude oil. In such a situation, the price of petrol and diesel may increase soon.
